Tonight we got a chance to catch a studio screening of the upcoming movie version of Get Smart on the Warner Bothers lot. I believe it comes out on June 20th of this year, so you still have a while to catch it. As with most pre-screenings, I'm not really allowed to divulged much about the movie, but I felt Steve Carrell did a fantastic job taking on the role of C.O.N.T.R.O.L. agent Maxwell Smart. Although reminiscent of the original series, this movie isn't so much a remake as a retooling of the original concept. There are the obligatory nods to the TV version, but this definitely isn't your daddy's Get Smart. It's kind of like comparing New Coke with Coke Classic -A lot of the basic elements are there, but it definitely has it's own flavor. Take that as you will, but me personally, I loved New Coke. Great, now this talk of New Coke -or "Coke 2" as it would later be called- has me feening for something that no longer exists. Don't you hate that?!
