The Incredibles

(View trailer for Pixar's The Incredibles)

Pixar has done it again with The Incredibles, one of it's last collaborations with Disney (which will end with the film
Cars , due out November 2005). After consistently taking a supporting role in Pixar's previous films, humans finally move to the forefront just in time to save the day. The story follows the once legendary Mr. Incredible and ElastiGirl (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter , respectively) now domesticated and retired from the 'superheroing' business and raising two and a half very special children of their own. Incredible is a sympathetic insurance agent who longs for a time when he made a real difference in the world and ElastiGirl is more than content being a loving housewife and a mother to their children. Life is mediocre at best, until trouble befalls the family through the machinations of the movie's antagonist -the anti-villain, Syndrome (played by the man, Jason Lee ). The story is well paced, and full of action and laughs just as you'd expect from Pixar. When it comes to the fight scenes, the movements roll seamlessly and there are no punches pulled for the little ones in the audience (Parents beware -when things blow up, people don't float to the ground with parachutes a la G.I. Joe. They just go boom!). Throw in Samuel L. Jackson as faithful friend and hero, Frozone, and you have yourself a well-rounded cast and quite an entertaining movie. It's going to seem like an eternity before I will be able to add this film to my DVD collection!
I would have to say that the movie had only two downfalls: The usually delightful short presented before any Pixar feature was replaced by...I don't know what, but
Boundin' was a far cry from the usual whetting of the appetite that we've come to expect. The second being that the now lackluster name of Disney has been slapped onto it's package, once again taking partial credit from the company that has created the ONLY successful endeavors to be released by Disney in years (with the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean), and destroying any chance of Pixar making the successful run of sequels and off-shoots that this movie has created the potential for (Disney has kept the rights to Pixar's Toy Story characters and is already planning out two more, most likely inferior sequels, sans Pixar Studios). It's a shame really, but what else would you expect from...nevermind.
If you love what Pixar has done thus far or just like superhero movies, you will love The Incredibles. I highly recommend it.
