Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of the Sith

Thursday, May 19, 2005

My friend, Hector, and I were lucky enough to get tickets for opening night in the dome at the Arclight theater in downtown Hollywood. What a circus! The Arclight stole the thunder from the amazingly dense fans who stood outside of Mann's Chinese Theatre for weeks AFTER being told it wouldn't premiere there this time, but instead at the Arclight. Apparently, Mann's used that line as a ruse the last time around to disperse the crowd that had built up around the world-famous theater. It's actually kind of funny...

So, we got to the theater a little early, but it didn't matter because seats at the Arclight are pre-determined and printed on your ticket. We just didn't want to get stuck in a long line. We actually ended up avoiding the already way too long of a line by jumping in with some friends who flagged us down as we passed, much to the chagrin of the people behind. (Whatever, go ahead and use your plastic lightsabers on us. I think I'll survive.) We made it in and ended up having fantastic seats right in the middle (SCORE!).

Was the movie all that I hoped it would be? Well, if all I needed was for it to far surpass the first two prequels, then sure. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it. There were just some small things that I would have changed or omitted for the sake of the next three films. Leave a little something to question for crying out loud, otherwise you've taken away a lot of the power in the original trilogy. I won't get specific. Overall, it was a great movie, but it was more of a waiting game than anything, because you already know what's going to inevitably happen. Not bad, Lucas. Way to not completely mutilate the mythology.
