So, yeah. I saw Batman Begins tonight.

I just got back from watching a private screening of Batman Begins down in Burbank and it was terrific. There were about ten people in the theater, so it wasn't very hard to find a seat. The movie itself was less of an 'action-packed superhero' movie and more of a 'building a hyper-realistic character into a very realistic foundation' type of movie. Of course there was action, but we don't even see him as Batman until a little over half-way through the film. One aspect they changed from the former franchise that I really liked is that they didn't spend half the movie building up the villian's origin and motivation. The less you know about a bad guy, the stronger their character is. People came to see the main man and that's what they got. Anyway, I really enjoyed it; especially the ending. At least it was better than that crap they're trying to pass off as Superman coming up. Comparing the two, I started thinking: Superman is an alien disguised as Clark Kent and Batman is Bruce Wayne dressed as a vigilante, but truthfully farmboy Clark Kent is who he truly is and he dresses as Superman to help the world -and- inversely Batman is really Batman now, who charades as Bruce Wayne to keep his wealth and his family name flourishing. So, who's really wearing the mask?
Earlier I caught Mr. and Mrs. Smith, also. What a great, funny movie. I actually wanted to go see it last Friday, but I had such bad blisters from a sunburn that I got having to drive up the coast to pick up a friend and it hurt to do just about anything. The ride itself was pleasant enough. I drove right up the coast with the ocean to my left almost consistantly. There was a nice cool breeze blowing. It was an aspect of California I haven't really taken the time to appreciate before now. I can see why people would like it here when you get away from the city and enjoy a nice country road up the coast. Of course, I don't live anywhere NEAR those country roads. I live in between NoHo and Burbank, not exactly the hub of peace and tranquility. Whatever, at least it's close to work.
